HP intros new Mini 5101 and ProBook 4310s
SHOWCASE: HP has unveiled its top-of-the-line Mini PC called the Mini 5101. Featuring a sturdy, lightweight anodized aluminum display enclosure with a black, brushed finish, the combination of materials is an industry first for the netbook category.
The product has a spill-resistant keyboard (95% of a full-size QWERTY keyboard), comes with HP DuraKeys (a clear coat to keep the keys 50x more resistant to visible wear) and weighs from 1.18kg.
Specs-wise, it sports a 10.1-inch diagonal LED display (WSVGA or HD resolutions), four-cell or six-cell battery (8 hours on the 6) and is powered by the low-power Intel Atom processor. For storage, it offers an optional Solid State Drive (SSD) of either 80 or 128GB on top of a standard 7,200 RPM drive.
Meanwhile, HP also introduced a new ProBook 4310s to its ProBook portfolio. As you know, we had a preview of its two color choices from the Beijing coverage we did here. The ProBook weighs 1.97kg and boasts a 13.3-inch diagonal screen size. It also comes with HP proprietary software applications once found only on its EliteBook series.
For additional audio/video functions and if you want to concurrently connect up to 5 USB 2.0-based devices to the ProBook, there’s a port replicator option called the USB 2.0 Essential Port Replicator.
Expect the Mini 5101 to retail in Asia Pacific from early August 2009 onwards with a starting price of US$599, while the ProBook 4310s by end July 2009 with a starting price of US$749 (glossy noir) and US$799 (merlot finish). The Port Replicator for the ProBook 4310s costs US$79.
- The HP Mini 5101 comes with an optional, integrated Gobi-powered HP Mobile Broadband module for users to access the Net, corporate intranet, email and other info around the world. Other wireless tech include integrated Wi-Fi and optional Bluetooth 2.0.
- Besides the Atom N280 processor, various storage options, the Mini 5101 has an integrated 2-megapixel webcam and 3 USB 2.0 ports.
- Beyond hardware, the Mini 5101 comes with its QuickSync software (available as a web download in September) for multi-file synching as well as the HP 3D DriveGuard, a three-axis digital accelerometer chip that shuts down the hard drive when there's sudden movement or shock.
- The Neoprene slip case for the Mini 5101 is expected to be available in Asia Pacific from USD$29 from mid Aug onwards.
- The HP ProBook s-series adds on to the family with a 13.3-inch screen version. At 1.97kg, the ProBook 4310s offers two color choices - glossy noir or merlot finish.
- The ProBook 4310s also features the HP QuickLook 2 software, SpareKey feature and File Sanitizer, innovations previously available only on the EliteBook series. The 4310s also offers an optional Fingerprint Sensor.
- The USB 2.0 Essential Port Replicator for the ProBook 4310 is expected to cost from USD$79 from mid Aug 2009 onwards.

i just hope that when they release it, they’d make a 6cell battery as a standard SKU.
1Hi John,
I’ve just spoken with the HWM Philippines team and they’ve informed me that HP Philippines has not made any plans nor announced if they’re bringing the HP mini 5101 into the Philippines just yet.
However, the mini 5101 is available in Singapore already via resellers and online order. The site’s here: http://bit.ly/ZlXkb
