Vijay Anand, Editor of HardwareZone.com, said “The HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards 2010 is the only such event in the region where tech products and services are honored with the highest accolade that the two publications can offer. It’s simply to celebrate the massive amount of innovation that has gone into these companies’ products and the impact they have made on our lives. The Reader’s Choice awards, on the other hand, are awarded based on readers’ votes and it is an indication of the brand’s success in this crowded IT and consumer electronics space.”

During the qualification period, the tech teams at both HWM and HardwareZone.com identified more than 150 products in 32 popular categories. The list of nominees was then refined by selecting products that brought consumers benefits, value and significant advancement in technologies. These products were then meticulously tested and benchmarked in HWZ Labs, where a panel of tech experts evaluated the results to finally determine the Editor’s Choice awards.

Meanwhile, readers of HWM and the online tech community in HardwareZone.com participated in the awards by voting for their favourite brands. More than 80 brands competed for the Reader’s Choice awards where more than 80,000 votes were received.

David Chieng, Editor of HWM said: “Technology today has evolved so rapidly that the criteria we set as the benchmark the year before may not necessarily remain the same this year. It was a challenge to get so many products tested in the lab while ensuring that our results remain relevant and useful to consumers.”

Eugene Low, Deputy Managing Director, SPH Magazines, added, “We believe the HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards 2010 will set a benchmark in the tech industry as the platform for our technology partners to showcase their innovative products. We hope the award recipients will be encouraged and will continue to look into constant improvements and innovations that will benefit consumers.”

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
